Start reading French easily and in record time

Learning a new language is never an easy task, but French isn’t as hard as it seems. However, it does have very confusing grammar which you will have to learn. French is known to be one of the more accessible languages, especially for North American and European people. There are plenty of similarities between French, English, Spanish, and other Romance languages.

According to the FSI scale, French is ranked as a “category I language”, which means that it is “more similar to English”, as compared to categories III and IV “hard” or “super-hard” languages. Most English speakers will find French to be one of the easiest languages to learn and on average it takes a student 30 weeks to achieve proficiency. Being a Romance language, you will be able to find plenty of similarities between French and English.

Several things are complicated to learn while studying French. However, generally speaking, the hardest thing about learning the French language is oral comprehension. The reason for this is because of the variations in vernacular, the urgency of listening, our brains’ resistance to the spoken word, and silent letters. This is entirely dependent on your level and subjective on the student. Beginner students will be focusing on easy French texts, such as letters and short dialogues. On the other hand, intermediate students will be reading more advanced texts such as articles. However, we do encourage all our students to read additional material outside of the class to be able to learn how to read quicker. You will be able to understand what type of reading material to take up after you have gotten the results from your Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) language test.

Every different level covers different topics. In the A1 and A2 levels, you will start reading casual and simple texts to understand how sentence structure works in French. While you read the texts, always make sure to write down any vocabulary you might not know yet or that may be useful in your day-to-day life.
