About CEFR levels
At Lingoda, we use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an international standard for language learning progress. It defines six levels, from Beginner (A1) and Elementary (A2) through Intermediate (B1, B2) to Advanced (C1). Each level builds on the one before, leading toward near-native fluency.
Learn about real-world topics you can learn today and use tonight. Our certified, native-level teachers turn complex grammar into clear conversation practice — bringing cultural nuances and local flavor to every class.

The best way to learn English is through a structured course led by a native-level teacher. Here at Lingoda, we believe a communication-based approach is the ideal way to develop your ability, as it allows you to build the confidence to use English for conversations and enables your teacher to correct any mistakes.
When you take English lessons, you should be using a combination of skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. It’s important to work on all these language skills in a supportive environment. Of course, you can always supplement your learning by listening to podcasts and using other online resources.
Our online English course also teaches functional English language abilities. Throughout the lessons, you’ll encounter a variety of dialects, accents and slang words covering various English-speaking regions. This means you’ll experience everything from Americanisms to New Zealand slang and British exclamations.
The English language has its fair share of challenges, including some confusing grammatical rules, an extremely large vocabulary, and some words that are difficult to spell. Despite this, it’s a relatively easy language to learn and an extremely accessible language, as it is so widely spoken all around the world.
While the precise difficulty of learning English will depend on your first language and how similar the rules are, most people will find they make progress quickly if they dedicate the time to studying. This can be aided by attending online English lessons regularly and taking the time to practice speaking out loud.
The overall popularity of the English language and its importance in a range of areas, including international politics, film, literature and music, helps greatly with learning, as it’s extremely easy to immerse yourself in English.
Here at Lingoda, we offer a standard online English course, as well as a Business English course. The former is designed to help learners achieve fluency and general competence with the language, while the latter focuses on equipping learners with the language skills needed to boost prospects in the international job market. On top of this, learners have the option of either a Flex or Sprint model.
With the Flex approach, you can customise your own learning and adjust the intensity every four weeks. You’ll learn in small classes of around five people, and you’ll also have options for one-to-one sessions. Classes are available 24/7, so you can learn English at times convenient for your schedule and lifestyle.
Alternatively, challenge yourself with the Sprint course. This is all about quick progress and big rewards. You’ll take either 30 or 60 classes in a two-month period and can earn 50% of your money back by completing the course.
With Lingoda, you can learn as an absolute beginner and continue to advance all the way to fluency. If you take our English course online, you’ll be able to learn at the following language levels:
It should be noted that our Business English class does not currently offer Level C1.
The English courses offered by Lingoda are spread across five different levels. If you’re inexperienced or want to brush up on even the basics, you can safely join at Level A1 or Level A2. However, if you have some knowledge of English and are looking to continue from roughly the same place you reached before, you need to know your language level.
If you have a certificate from a previous course or already know your current language level, you should feel free to jump back in at that level. However, we’re aware that many people have some existing knowledge of the English language, but they may not have certificates or a true understanding of the level they reached.
Fortunately, we have a solution: you can take our free English language placement test to get an estimate of your current level. The test is easy to understand and takes around five minutes to complete.
You can make major progress in 3 months, especially in speaking confidence and everyday communication — if you practice frequently and get feedback. The biggest lever is intensity: Lingoda’s Sprint is built for fast progress (30 or 60 classes over 2 months), and you can keep momentum with regular live classes afterward.
Expect “fluent” outcomes to depend on your start level, but a noticeable jump in real-life communication is very achievable with consistency.
They’re worth it when they include live interaction, speaking time, and correction — not just videos and quizzes. Lingoda positions itself as an online school with live classes, small groups, and certified native-speaking teachers, plus downloadable materials and post-class quizzes.
That combination is what typically turns “studying English” into “using English”.
Fast progress comes from a simple system:
1. Speak live several times per week (so English becomes automatic)
2. Use a structured level path (CEFR) so you’re not guessing what to learn next
3. Go intensive for a short period (Sprint), then keep consistency (Flex)
4. Review in small daily chunks (10–20 minutes using lesson materials/quiz)
It depends on where you want to teach:
* TEFL is commonly associated with teaching English in non-English-speaking countries (“foreign language” contexts).
* TESOL is often used as a broader umbrella for teaching English to non-native speakers, including in English-speaking countries — and in practice the terms are frequently treated as overlapping.
What matters most in hiring is usually less the acronym and more whether your course is recognized, includes practical teaching components, and matches the market you’re applying to (check job ads in your target country/city).
