What learning materials will I get?
As a Lingoda student, you can download the class materials for free and use them at any time. After your class, you will also find a quiz to help you refresh and practice your new skills. For English and A1 German students, downloadable exercises are available as well. All materials are uniquely created by Lingoda experts to align with CEFR standards. How do you choose your teachers?
At Lingoda, you have the opportunity to learn from a different teacher every time you take a class. Learning in different styles and different accents is what makes the Lingoda experience so unique and makes you ready for the real world. However, if you find a teacher you like, you can book their classes as well.

The teacher will introduce themselves and begin teaching the lesson using learning materials that you can download at the end of class. Everyone makes mistakes, that’s how we learn. Our classes are intentionally small (3-5 students) so that you can not only practice speaking and receive personalized feedback, but learn from mistakes that other students are making as well. Your teacher will make sure that everyone has time to practice reading out loud, answering questions and conversing with one another. And if you want more personal feedback (e.g. to improve your personal cover letter or learn the most difficult grammar topics), you can always sign up for an additional private class by purchasing extra credits in your account.

Do I need to stick to a class schedule?
Definitely not. You can schedule classes that perfectly fit your busy — and sometimes variable — schedule. One day you could take a class at 7pm, another day at 10am. This is one of the reasons our students prefer our online classes to traditional language schools, where you would have to commit to a recurring and set schedule. With us, you make your own schedule.

Learning progress
How long will it take to improve my language skills?
It depends. As is the case when learning any new skill, your progress depends on your efforts. If you would like to learn quickly, then we suggest that you make language learning a consistent habit. Also focus and participate in class and complete the downloadable materials at the end of each class for best results. It also depends on which Lingoda plan you choose, as some of our plans are more intensive than others.

I’d like my family members to learn with Lingoda. Do you offer a family plan?
We would love to see your family and friends learning with us! Unfortunately, we don’t offer a family plan, and students under 18 years are not eligible to take classes. However, we do have a “refer a friend” plan. For every person that enrols with us, they will get €50 off their first month’s payment, and you will get 5 extra group class credits. Plus, there’s no limit to how many people you can refer.

What if I don’t like a teacher? Can I change teachers?
Of course! You can even change teachers every class. In fact, you will almost always learn with a new teacher, as their rotation is an important part of our method’s success. Doing so exposes you to different accents and speaking styles so that you can understand any native-level teacher, from any region.

Can I cancel my subscription?
Whether or not you can cancel your subscription depends on the plan you have purchased. If you have signed up for our 7-day free trial, you can easily cancel it within the 7 day period in order to prevent it from rolling over into a monthly plan.

How can I make the most out of my class?
Check your internet connection, mic and audio settings 15 minutes before the class starts. Download the learning materials before the class and go through them. Have a glass of water ready as you’ll talk a lot during class! A quiet room or workspace will help you to concentrate.

You can rate the teachers, the learning materials and the technology after your class. Please leave written feedback for ratings lower than three stars. Our teacher management team will follow up with the teacher to improve class quality. We value every opinion and take reviews very seriously.

If my class starts slightly later or finishes earlier, will I be disqualified from the Lingoda Language Sprint™ refund?
No. Rarely a teacher or a student may be a few minutes late or may have to leave a few minutes early. As long as you do not miss more than 10 minutes of a class, you will not be disqualified.

The system is unable to differentiate between regular Lingoda students and Lingoda Language Sprint™ challenge participants. It is your responsibility to adhere to the rules as well as to check the start and end dates of the Lingoda Language Sprint™.

I'm currently subscribed to another Lingoda product. Can I switch to Lingoda Teams?
If you are subscribed to our monthly product “”Flex””, you will need to cancel your current subscription and switch to a Lingoda Teams subscription. If you have remaining credits you will not lose them, and you may use them later.

Are the course materials included?
Yes. You can download all course materials for free from your account. No additional materials or textbooks are required. In addition to the online German course with a teacher, Lingoda offers homework and a lesson practice section after your lessons so you can keep practising.

What happens if I miss a class or a day of classes?
You can reschedule one day per month during your course. If you have appointments, travel, illness or other obligations that keep you from class, you can cancel the classes in advance (at least 3 days) and the class credit will be returned to your Lingoda account. You can then use that credit to rebook the classes you are missing at a time that works for you.
If you miss a class last minute or cannot cancel in advance, you will miss the class and the credit will not be refunded. If you wish to take the class you missed you will need to purchase extra credits and schedule it at your own convenience.

Where can I find my upcoming classes?
Once your online German group classes have been scheduled and a teacher has been allocated, your upcoming classes can be accessed through the ‘My course’ tab or the ‘My classes’ tab on your Lingoda account. You will receive an email notification from our team once the classes have been scheduled.

What can I do if I want to change groups for any reason?
If you are not satisfied with your group, you should reach out to our student success team service@lingoda.com. We will attempt to address any concerns and find you another group to join if possible. Switching of groups is not guaranteed.

This is to ensure full completion of the desired level in the time frame of the course and to make sure the team stays together for the duration of the course.

If your payment fails, we will retry for seven days following a missed payment; this gives you time to update your payment details. After seven days of missed payment, your subscription will be cancelled and you will not have access to classes. 14 days after a missed payment, you will be removed from the Lingoda Teams course and won’t be able to rejoin.

Each Lingoda Teams course completes a module, e.g A1.1.. Each module represents a sub-level of an overall level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), e.g A1. Depending on the level, you would need to take either two (A1 and A2) or three (B1 and B2) modules to complete the full level.

Our courses are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). They cover the key language and skills required at each level, meaning that you would have a solid foundation for passing an external examination. However, Lingoda does not currently offer access to an official exam, meaning that you would need to organise this independently. The course also does not provide preparation for any specific exam.

Will I earn a certificate?
Participants who attend and actively participate in at least 90% of the course get a Lingoda certificate of attendance. Those participants who successfully pass the optional final assessment test at the end of the course will receive a certificate of successful completion. Please note that this certificate may not be valid for visa purposes or university entry: please ask the authority if this is an important requirement for you.

Can I use the credits I got from my previous subscription to take classes before the course starts?
You should not book any classes before your Teams course starts. This is because you technically can’t book classes from levels other than the one you have signed up for. And we strongly recommend not to get a head-start as you should begin at the same level as your coursemates.

You’ll always have 2 classes back-to-back – with each class being one hour long. The teacher may offer a 5-10 minute break between those back-to-back classes.
